A timber TV unit brings warmth to your living space

A TV unit often forms a strong visual line across the living room, making it an important part of how the space feels. Solid timber brings warmth and natural character, helping to soften the presence of the television and technology around it.

When crafting each wooden TV cabinet, we carefully select and arrange the boards so the grain and tones flow beautifully across the doors and drawer fronts. The result is practical storage that feels like a considered piece of furniture in its own right.

Freestanding or floating TV cabinets?

Choosing between a floating and freestanding TV cabinet comes down to the proportions of your room and the overall feeling you want to create. Both options provide practical storage, but they sit quite differently within the space.

Floating TV cabinets

Mounted to the wall with the floor visible beneath, a floating TV cabinet creates a clean, streamlined appearance and can help a room feel more spacious. It is particularly well suited to contemporary interiors and makes cleaning underneath the unit easier.

Freestanding timber TV units

A freestanding timber TV unit has a more grounded presence, helping to anchor the television within the room. This style works beautifully where you want the cabinetry to feel like a substantial piece of furniture, with the natural grain and warmth of the timber taking centre stage.

Customise your timber entertainment unit storage

Choose a configuration that suits what you need to store and how you want your TV unit to look. Your timber entertainment unit can be made with all cupboards, all drawers or all open shelves, or with a combination of the three.

Designed around your technology

When designing timber TV units, the internal layout is just as important as the external timber grain. Customising these features ensures your furniture is tailored to your lifestyle and technology needs.

  • Cable management

We can include discreet cable ports and internal routing holes to keep your “cable spaghetti” completely out of sight. This keeps your entertainment area looking clean and organised while providing easy access to power points.

  • Ventilated media sections

Gaming consoles, amplifiers and other media equipment can generate heat. Open sections or slatted timber doors allow air to circulate around your equipment without compromising the overall design.

  • Adjustable internal shelving

Adjustable shelves allow the internal storage to be configured around equipment of different sizes. They can also be repositioned as your technology or storage needs change over time.

  • Remote-friendly timber slats

If you want to hide your technology but still need your remotes to work, timber slat doors are the perfect solution. The infrared signals pass through the gaps, allowing you to control your devices while they remain neatly tucked away behind beautiful, solid timber.

Our TV cabinet timber options

The timber you choose will shape the colour, grain and overall character of your TV unit. Our designs are available in seven timber options: Australian Chestnut, American Oak, Blackbutt, Messmate, Recycled Messmate, Tasmanian Blackwood and Walnut.

From the lighter tones of American Oak and Blackbutt to the natural feature of Messmate and the deeper warmth of Tasmanian Blackwood and Walnut, each timber brings something different to the room. As every board has its own grain and tonal variation, your timber TV unit will be naturally unique.

You can explore each timber below, order samples to view at home or arrange an appointment to see the timbers in person at our Torquay workshop.

Choose your internals

The inside of your wooden TV unit can be crafted from either white melamine or timber. Both options are durable and moisture resistant, allowing you to choose the appearance, care requirements and price point that best suit your home.

  • White melamine internals

White melamine provides a practical interior that is easy to care for and more budget friendly than timber internals. We use moisture-resistant, E0-rated melamine with very low formaldehyde emissions.

  • Timber internals

Timber internals create a cohesive timber finish inside and out. The internal structure is crafted from solid timber, with matching timber veneer used for the drawer bases and back panels where needed. This option is durable, repairable and allows the natural warmth of the timber to continue through the entire piece.

Traditional infrared remotes will not work through a solid timber door. If you would like to conceal media equipment, we can incorporate slatted timber doors that allow the infrared signal to pass through the gaps. Some equipment uses Bluetooth or radio-frequency remotes, which may work through a closed door, so we recommend checking your equipment before finalising the design.

No. Your choice of timber or white melamine internals does not change the external appearance of your TV cabinet. The difference is visible only when the cupboards or drawers are opened.

Floating TV cabinets are securely fixed with batten screws through the plaster into suitable structural supports within the wall such as the studs or noggins. We recommend planning the cabinet position, power points and cable access before installation.

All our TV cabinets are made with quality soft-close Blum runners and hinges. We use Blum Antaro runners with white melamine internals and Blum Movento runners with timber internals.

Yes we can install our TV cabinets within our local area. The pricing will depend on the number of pieces that we are installing as well as the travel time.
