  • The touchability and aliveness of real wood elevate your kitchen experience, whether you're cooking for your family or casually dining at your kitchen island.

Our seven different wood options ensure that there is a timber bench top to suit any style of kitchen. As well as sustainably sourced new timbers, we also offer reclaimed timber options such as recycled Messmate.

Blackbutt timber bench top

A hardwearing timber finish for a well-loved home

We seal all our timber bench tops with Osmo, a high-performance natural oil and wax that protects the wood from moisture while still being easy to care for. This finish enhances the details rather than hiding the natural beauty of the wood.

Unlike a two-pack finish, the Osmo natural oil and wax finish is fixable in the inevitable case of a scratch and is non-toxic, low-VOC and even toy-safe.

Recycled and sustainable Timber bench top options

Ranging from the creamy tones of Blackbutt to the warmth of Tasmanian Blackwood, there is a sustainably sourced or recycled wood that is perfect for your kitchen aesthetic.

Feature-grade timbers such as Messmate are known for their beautiful sap line, which are hand-filled to accentuate their unique and stunning character. Selecting a timber with a natural tone to suit your style has much better longevity than applying a stain.

The process behind your timber bench top

Here’s what the process looks like when you order a kitchen timber bench top with us.

  • Step 1 — Refine your bench top design

Start with a standard design or create something custom. Choose your timber, size and configuration or request a quote if your project needs something more specific. We can also guide you through timber options based on your style and how the space will be used.

  • Step 2 — Confirm your order

Place your order by email, in person, over the phone or through our order form. Once confirmed, we send your deposit invoice, estimated completion time and a form to capture all the key details, from dimensions to timber features and delivery preferences.

  • Step 3 — Review your design drawings

We prepare detailed drawings based on your selections. You can review, request changes and fine-tune the design until everything feels right for your kitchen or space before giving final approval.

  • Step 4 — We craft your solid timber bench top

Your bench top is made in our Torquay workshop using timber sourced from Melbourne and Geelong. Each piece is carefully cut, assembled and finished by hand, with attention to grain, joins and overall consistency.

  • Step 5 — Delivery or collection

Once your bench top is ready, we confirm timing and organise delivery or collection. You can arrange your own freight or have us coordinate delivery, depending on what suits your project and location.

Custom Timber Bench Tops FAQ

We can source beautiful wood to make our recycled timber bench tops. The reclaimed wood we can source is Messmate, Ironbark, Blackbutt and Jarrah. Click here for more information on our timber options.

To create our custom kitchen timber bench tops, we use either sustainably sourced new or reclaimed wood. We mainly use Australian timbers from Victoria such as Wormy Chestnut or Messmate which are sourced from Melbourne or Geelong to save travel miles and support small businesses.

Each of our bench tops is designed and made to order to our client’s dimensions and timber preferences. In many cases, bench tops need to be templated once the cabinetry is installed to ensure it fits the walls exactly.

We are only able to install our bench tops within our local surfcoast area, Geelong and in Melbourne. The process takes 3 visits to apply all the coats of finish.

As long as the items are not too large to freight, we can create stand-alone bench tops such as for a kitchen Island.

For other benches between walls and with joins to other bench tops, if your builder or tradesperson is happy to cut to size onsite and apply the three coats of finish we can manufacture only.

As long as the finish is cared for correctly, it is stain- and water-resistant.

The only product that is safe to clean the timber is the Osmo wash and care product. This has been designed to clean whilst protecting the finish.

Every 3-6 months the Osmo liquid wax cleaner needs to be applied to top up the finish.

We do not do a 2-pack finish due to its toxicity and lack of longevity.

Over time, the Osmo finish is more durable, as it can be spot-fixed in the case of damage, unlike a polyurethane finish.
