Timber Character Levels
The Bombora classifications for timber character levels
At Bombora Custom Furniture, you can choose the amount of natural and recycled features in the timber used to create your piece. This can greatly alter the style of your piece.
The feature-grade timbers available are new and recycled Messmate, Wormy Chestnut and recycled Blackbutt. All other timbers are select grade and naturally have low feature. The select grade timbers such as American Oak, Australian Chestnut and select Blackbutt still have lots of natural grain patterns
Wood Character Level
We are referring to natural timber features such as sap lines, sap pockets, and flecks and recycled features such as nail holes, iron staining and bolt holes. The level of character in the timber you choose can take the style of your piece from clean Danish to refined industrial style all the way to rustic! The feature level selection option is only for timbers with natural or recycled feature such as Messmate and Wormy Chestnut. The other timbers are a select grade so all have low feature. We offer a “select your own timber” service for an additional $200 where the maker will assist you to choose every stick of wood to be used to create your piece of furniture. This can be done in person or via Zoom.
