Custom made Messmate buffet with legs

Inspiration for a new design can come from strange places…. this Messmate Buffet with legs however followed the more conventional routes of necessity and looking back to the past. This particular client loved our very popular Bellbrae Buffet yet wanted legs.   With infinite possibilities, Luke wanted create a piece that was visually balanced with legs that worked congruently with the existing design.  The classic 70′s silhouette was the perfect answer!

The ‘picture frame’ of the shell around the doors was needed both for engineering purposes as well as for aesthetics to separate the top portion from the legs.

The timber was hand picked and carefully chosen to be clean on the doors and more full of natural features such as sap lines on the legs and the shell.

The timber on the doors changes in tone from lightest at the top to darkest at the bottom.  This image also shows some of the beautiful swirling grain that occurs with recycled Messmate.

Box joints were used on the shell for added structural strength as well as for the visual effect of exposing the more dense end grain of the timber.

Solid timber doors with shelves that are an adjustable height. The doors have sliding dovetails to enable the timber to naturally expand and contract with the change of seasons without causing the door to buckle.
